A Message from

              NY Union Proud (NYUP)

We believe that the democratic principles that formed the basis for PEF to emerge as the largest white collar union in the Country is a proud heritage to uphold.  Promoting democracy means many things, but few are more important than free and constructive debate, communication, and providing members with choices.  A new and energetic caucus has been formed to provide all three to members beginning with a choice in the upcoming PEF Statewide Triennial Election this June.  While many members spoke to us about forming a new caucus prior to PEF's Annual Convention this past September, it was determined that a new caucus should not emerge in the midst of a contentious contract debate for this would only promote more internal strife within our Union.

A meeting was held on December 17, 2011 and NY Union Proud (NYUP) emerged as a new caucus within PEF.  At the meeting, we elected Susan Kent as NYUP Caucus Chair and Carlos Garcia as the NYUP Caucus Treasurer.

NYUP has laid out a timeline of activities for the selection of Statewide, Regional, and Executive Board candidates to challenge the current Members First administration in the PEF Triennial Election in June 2012. This initial meeting resulted in workgroups forming to help build a grassroots member oriented caucus.

The following timeline gives you each an opportunity to consider what your role can be in helping to build the caucus.  You can be a tremendous help by sharing this information with as many members as possible.
